Dagny Eason, Fairfield County's Real Estate Blog: Retro Kitchen

Retro Kitchen

I wanted to share these pictures.

These are from the kitchen of a friend/ client who has been doing a lot of work in his home since his purchase.     I dropped by his house earlier this week to drop off some banana bread and a card.  I was amazed at the progress!

Did you enjoy the look of the 50s?    Here it is!

I must admit - I love it!

The most recent ranking of the nation’s high schools published by U.S. News & World Report distinguished Connecticut with 11 gold medal schools, 24 silver medal schools, and 4 bronze medal schools. Of the top 10 best high schools listed, half were in the 26th district. Weston, Ridgefield, Wilton, Joel Barlow, Darien, New Canaan, and Staples High School were recognized.

Dagny-Red, white and blue is not only retro but patriotic. It is a unique look. I am not a fan of the black and white floor tiles but each of us has our own unique style and if he likes it then that is what matters

There are a handful of companies now that make retro appliances. They look like the old appliances but have all the functionality of modern ones. They would go perfect in this kitchen!

Adorable!  I am always happy to see a client put their own stamp on their home. So many, nowadays, don't do that.  They just keep living in the same boring beige box that they purchased.

Dagney, it's very retro and kind of unusual, but pretty.

Dagny- I think for the right house... it's perfect.  It also has clean lines, which I like.

Dagny, I agree that your client has done a wonderful job with their kitchen.  The painted cabinet face looks great against the white!

Posted by Bruce Walter (Keller Williams Realty Lafayette/West Lafayette, Indiana) almost 4 years ago

This is a great look, Dagny.  I think we are also retro....back to the seventies!!! Hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

Dagny

Very cool. I really like this look - contemporary retro. At least there is no gold or avocado

The old with the new...I know many really like this look and it seems to work. At least there's no Harvest Gold appliances!

Dagny, I showed a home awhile back the kitchen was basically done 50s diner style with old Coke memorabilia, checkered floor and counters.  Interesting look (but wasn't a match for our buyers that day).

Dagny, I remember walking into a kitchen like that a while back complete with the avocado appliances. All of which had been installed in the 50's and nothing had ever been changed

My favorite thing here, Ed, is the red counter!

Hello Dagny,

This is a well-done retro - not my style, but I certainly appreciate the look!

I am not a painted cabinet kind of girl.  I love wood and would never paint it.

@@Lisa, I could enjoy looking at this kitchen - so bright and clean

Posted by Dagny Eason, Fairfield County CT, CDPE Homes For Sale and Condo (Dagny's Real Estate) almost 4 years ago

Tammy Lankford actually, he refurbished what was already there.   A little clean paint, new knobs, new countertops, and new appliances.

None of us could have lived in the kitchen he bought!!!!    No way!

Posted by Dagny Eason, Fairfield County CT, CDPE Homes For Sale and Condo (Dagny's Real Estate) almost 4 years ago

Dagny they have done an excellent job.  The appliances look a lot like mine.

Yes, I would love a kitchen like that.  I have oak cabinets and oak hardwood floors and I would rather have painted cabinets! In the Midwest they gasp and grab their chest when you talk about painting hardwood...

Hi Dagny - thanks for sharing this information, and it definitely looks like a lot of work has gone into this remodel.

Good morning Dagny. That is a pretty cool look. I do like the stainless steel with the 50s retro. I don't see those color combinations too much anymore.

Good morning Dagny. Not my taste, but a great job was done. It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, they love their accomplishment, that is all that matters.

Hi Dagny.  There is not a thing that I like in that look especially the floor.

Posted by Conrad Allen, Webster, Ma, Realtor (Re/Max Professional Associates) almost 4 years ago

Morning Dagny just not my thing but I know a lot of people who would just love that look.

Posted by James Dray, Exceptional Agents, Outstanding Results (Fathom Realty AR LLC) almost 4 years ago

It looks very interesting, Dagny, though I must admit it wouldn't be my style.

Good morning Dagny,

I am always excited when a client puts their own stamp on their home! As Joe Petrowsky comments "It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, they love their accomplishment, that is all that matters." Thanks for showing it to us I think it's awesome!

The stainless steel has replaced our chrome over the decades but the permanance of metals has not faded in our kitchens only in our cars.

I love the look  of this kitchen Dagny and if it were not for resale value, as it might not appeal to everyone, I would have done it in my own home in a heartbeat!!!  Thank you for sharing this!

I love the hardware and its in style.... not sure if I like the color of panels but it's certainly seems to work with this retro kitchen and stainless steel.

Posted by Bob Ratliff, "Sold with Bob" (Robert Ratliff Realty) almost 4 years ago

That is a neat looking kitchen, I like the mix of retro and modern, the stainless steel appliances seem to fit in perfectly!

Dagny I always love to look at kitchens, I saw an old stove I would have loved to have....more expensive than the whole remodel:), Endre

p.s.: clearly there is a value to retro
